OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE RESTORED
COUNCIL CHAMBER AND MAYOR'S PARLOUR

Gibraltar Heritage Trust

7th March 2000

City Hall is truly one of Gibraltar's most important civic buildings. It has been the residence of leading citizens in our community and even of Royalty. It has also played host to some of Gibraltar's municipal and governmental activities for many years.

After the restoration of the exterior of the building was formally inaugurated in July 1996 I became very aware of the need to restore the interior also. The first phase of that internal restoration has now been targeted to the Council Chamber and Mayor's Parlour. The project has been co-funded by the Government, the Heritage Trust and the Friends of Gibraltar Heritage Society and I have been happy to give this project my personal support and endorsement.

My thanks go to the Trust for co-ordinating the works and the restorers for their excellent efforts in revitalising this centrepiece of Gibraltar's history.
